The State Planning Commission in Tamil Nadu was initially constituted in 1971 by the Government of Tamil Nadu. It serves as an apex advisory body providing evidence-based policy guidance to promote holistic growth and development in the state. The Commission operates under the Chairmanship of the Hon'ble Chief Minister and aids in formulating, implementing, and evaluating policies related to development, economic growth, social welfare, and innovation in Tamil Nadu. The Commission is responsible for preparing annual and five-year plans, monitoring state welfare programs, and ensuring effective delivery at grassroots levels. It works in collaboration with various sectoral Government Departments and promotes knowledge sharing for the state's progress. The State Planning Commission is committed to creating policy coherence and implementing special programmes including the State Balanced Growth Fund (SBGF), Tamil Nadu Innovations Initiative (TANII), and Tamil Nadu State Land Use Research Board (TNSLURB).

The programme is for 2-4 months, extendable up to 6 months, and is a non-paid internship. PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES: 1. To facilitate short-term exposure to young graduates to familiarise them with the scope for Innovation in Governance 2. To develop professional competencies among early-career professionals in working with innovation ecosystems, emerging technologies, and social innovation systems LOCATION & DURATION: Location: State Planning Commission, Chennai Programme Start Date: 05th January 2026 Duration: 2-4 months (extendable up to 6 months) Application Deadline: 24-December-2025, 6:00 PM ABOUT THE PROGRAMME: This non-remuneration internship programme is designed to provide young graduates with practical exposure to innovation in governance across various sectors. Participants will work directly with the Centre for Innovation in Governance team on high-impact projects that contribute to Tamil Nadu's development vision. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT: The State Planning Commission is the apex body for policy guidance and development planning in Tamil Nadu, operating under the Chairmanship of the Chief Minister. The Centre for Innovation in Governance is a specialized initiative focused on fostering innovation across government sectors. COMPENSATION: This is a non-paid internship. Interns will receive a Certificate of Internship from the Tamil Nadu State Planning Commission upon completion of 4 months and submission of a sectoral scoping report (reviewed by a panel). No travel or accommodation expenses will be provided unless explicitly stated as part of the assigned task.
