The State Planning Commission in Tamil Nadu was initially constituted in 1971 by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The Commission operates under the Chairmanship of the Hon'ble Chief Minister and aids in formulating, implementing, and evaluating policies related to development, economic growth, social welfare, and innovation in Tamil Nadu. The Commission is responsible for preparing annual and five-year plans, monitoring state welfare programs, and ensuring effective delivery at grassroots levels. It works in collaboration with various sectoral Government Departments and promotes knowledge sharing for the state's progress. The State Planning Commission is committed to creating policy coherence and implementing special programmes including the State Balanced Growth Fund (SBGF), Tamil Nadu Innovations Initiative (TANII), and Tamil Nadu State Land Use Research Board (TNSLURB).
