About
The Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) is a nonprofit global health organization committed to building a world in which everyone is able to live a healthy and fulfilling life. Founded in 2002 by President William J. Clinton, CHAI was initially established to address the HIV/AIDS epidemic with the transformational goal of dramatically reducing the price of life-saving drugs and increasing access to these medicines in countries with the highest burden of disease. Today, CHAI works in over 35 countries across Africa, Asia, and Latin America with more than 20 programs across four health areas. In India, CHAI has been working since 2004 in close partnership with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) at national, state, and district levels. The organization supports government priorities across multiple health domains including infectious diseases (HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, hepatitis), non-communicable diseases (cancer, diabetes, hypertension), maternal and child health, immunization programs, health financing, digital health, and health systems strengthening. CHAI's mission is to save lives and improve health outcomes in low- and middle-income countries by enabling the government and private sector to strengthen and sustain quality health systems. The organization applies a unique approach combining science, business, and technical expertise to catalyze scale-up of cost-effective solutions, accelerate uptake of innovative products and delivery models, extend the value of health spending, and strengthen health systems for future challenges.
