About this role
Director (Investment) of Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF/RDIF). This position leads investment activity across each of RDIF verticals and reports to the Executive Director. The role is responsible for developing and implementing vertical-specific investment strategies, building and managing specialized teams, identifying and engaging with potential investing partners (SLFMs), overseeing due diligence processes, and managing post-investment portfolio monitoring to ensure value creation and successful exits.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities: - Lead investment activity across each of RDIF verticals and report to ED, RDIF - Develop vertical-specific investment policies, workflows, screening, evaluation frameworks, due diligence and valuation tools - Recruit, structure, and lead specialized teams with domain expertise relevant to each vertical - Identify and engage with potential SLFMs; lead investment sourcing efforts across Indian private investment ecosystem - Lead due diligence processes and oversee preparation of detailed Investment Memoranda - Present Investment Memoranda and proposed investment terms to the ED RDIF - Design and lead post-investment portfolio monitoring; support value creation strategies and exits - Ensure continuous alignment of SLFM investments with RDIF's overarching investment policy - Provide regular reporting, performance analysis, and strategic insights to ED, RDIF - Engage with industry partners, ecosystem enablers, and government bodies for investment opportunities
Requirements
Essential Requirements: - Educational Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in technology/engineering OR Master's in science, economics, finance, commerce, business administration or equivalent (CA, CFA). - Work Experience: At least 15 years of structured technology sector investment deal experience, ideally in R&D-intensive sectors. - Age Limit: Not more than 55 years at time of application (may be relaxed for exceptional candidates). Desired Requirements: - Experience in Principal-tier or equivalent roles in AIFs and/ or other technology investment organisations, including debt funders; operational leadership of sovereign wealth funds, multilateral organisations, national investment organisations; or senior leadership at venture builders and technology incubators managing R&D-intensive technologies. - Experience in designing and managing large-scale investments and interfacing with multiple fund managers and institutions, capital deployment, investment management with a successful investment track record, and exits. - Demonstrated capability in institution-building, portfolio oversight, and ecosystemdevelopment. - Demonstrated capability or experience to represent the institution in public and private fora, with a good grasp of trends in VC/ PE investments and emerging fund structures. - Experience in investments in technology and innovation-led sectors. - Experience of having been on Investment Committees of tech funds. - Experience in institutional risk management, particularly for early-stage or highrisk tech portfolios. - Familiarity with regulatory frameworks governing AIFs and public investment vehicles, including compliance with SEBI or relevant government authorities.
